The parties

They perfectly reflect the open and passionate character of our land. Any excuse is a good one to go out into the streets, to abandon everyday life for a few days, or even just a few hours, and immerse ourselves in a sea of ​​shared emotions, hugs, fun, tradition, and feeling.

It is during the festivities that a town shows itself as it is, that is why sharing and experiencing the festivities of La Vila Joiosa is a necessary experience to discover its true identity: a town with open arms where everyone is welcome.

And that hospitality, typical of the Mediterranean character, has its greatest expression in the Moors and Christians Festival, from July 24 to 31, which was declared of International Tourist Interest in 2003. During that week the doors of the cuarteles (festival venues) are open to all visitors to eat and drink, to dance and enjoy, to feel and experience them firsthand.

But it’s not just that magical week at the end of July that allows us to experience the cheerful and jovial nature of the people of Vila Joiosa. Vila Joiosa offers a vast calendar of traditions, festivals, celebrations, pilgrimages, and street parties. Throughout the year, from January with Saint Anthony’s Day to December with Christmas, every month offers a perfect opportunity to visit Vila Joiosa and experience its festivities; only then will you discover it in all its splendor.

La Nadala

La Nadala is Villajoyosa’s Christmas program, a festive, cultural, and family-friendly event that fills the city with activities during the Christmas and Three Kings celebrations. The estate of La Barbera dels Aragonés becomes the main venue for this Christmas festival, which combines tradition, leisure, culture, and a Mediterranean atmosphere for people of all ages.

La Vila Vella

La Vila Vella is a cultural and artistic project that transforms the historic district of Villajoyosa into a large open space dedicated to creativity, heritage, and citizen participation. Organized by the Villajoyosa City Council with the indispensable collaboration of associations, artists, groups, and residents, the event fills the streets of the historic district with urban art installations, music, theater, workshops, guided tours, and cultural activities for people of all ages.

A magical night celebrated on June 23 at Playa Centro in Villajoyosa. This traditional festival brings together locals and visitors by the sea in a festive atmosphere filled with Mediterranean symbolism. The celebration is known for the traditional Sant Joan wreaths and the “fanalets,” small handcrafted lanterns that light up the beach during one of the most special nights of the year.

The Landing is the central event of the Moors and Christians Festival in Vila Joiosa, a celebration that commemorates the city’s defense against a Berber attack in 1538. This event, designated as being of International Tourist Interest, takes place annually from July 24 to 31.

Neighborhood parties

A collection of traditional festivals spread across neighborhoods and villages of La Vila Joiosa.

These celebrations include the feasts of Saint Anthony, Saint Isidore, Saint Pancras, Our Lady of the Assumption, Saint Bartholomew, Saint Augustine, Saint Raymond, and Saint Blaise, featuring music, contests, processions, and other popular activities. The Saint Jude Festival, held in the La Cala neighborhood, is also part of these festivities.

Holy Week

A religious and cultural celebration with a long-standing tradition in Villajoyosa, featuring processions, liturgical ceremonies, and music that wind through the streets of the historic district and the city center. Holy Week in Villajoyosa combines solemnity, heritage, and deep-rooted popular tradition, making it one of the most representative festivals on the local calendar.

Our Lady of Tiscar

An Andalusian-inspired pilgrimage and fair held on the second weekend of June. It symbolizes the bonds of unity and integration between the residents of Quesada and Villajoyosa, two sister cities whose festivities are deeply rooted in tradition, as the brotherhood has been sharing its traditions with the people of Villajoyosa for 38 years through this fair held in honor of their Virgin.
