Central food market and gastronomic space of reference in La Vila Joiosa.
On May 17, 2003, the Mercat de La Vila reopened its doors. It did so in the same location where it had been since 1947, but in a new, attractive, and modern building. The Mercat is the perfect showcase for the products of La Vila Joiosa and is also one of the city's main gastronomic attractions in terms of food shopping. Visiting or shopping at the Mercat de La Vila is a true pleasure: vegetables, fish, meat, salted fish, preserves, bread, pastries, cured meats, pickles, frozen foods, wines, craft beers, vermouths, oils, honey… A vast array of products that transforms some of the stalls into veritable spectacles of color, flavor, tradition, and authenticity.
Furthermore, at the Mercat de La Vila, you can not only shop, but also eat. In its food court, you can enjoy whatever you fancy: black pudding, prawns… you just have to order it and they'll prepare it for you in no time. Some of the stalls have even adopted the latest trends in modern food markets and prepare some of their products in small portions so you can comfortably enjoy them right there: salted fish, cheeses, boiled seafood, cured meats… Locally sourced products.
In La Vila Joiosa, at the Mercat and in some small gourmet and/or traditional shops, in addition to the “peix de La Vila” (fish from La Vila) and the different brands of chocolate from La Vila, we find other local products that stand out for their variety and quality: “Creu de Pedra” Vermouth; “Mas de Sella” Wines, “La Pileta” Olive Oil, “El Abuelo” Honey, salted fish, traditional pastries, artisan ice creams…
Local products that highlight the gastronomic importance of the city and that are an added value to the traditional and very extensive gastronomic heritage of Villajoyosa.
