The Landing, an iconic event associated with the Moors and Christians festival.

In the early morning hours of July 28, the landing of the Moorish troops on the city’s beach is reenacted. Participants, dressed in period costumes, reenact the arrival of the Moorish ships and the subsequent battle with Christian troops on the beach. The reenactment culminates with a Christian victory and the expulsion of the invaders, symbolizing the resistance and bravery of the residents of Vila Joiosa.

Organization:
The Santa Marta Association is the organization responsible for coordinating and organizing the Moors and Christians Festival, including the Landing. Founded in 1963, this association brings together the various festival groups that participate in the events and parades.

Participation and Schedule:
The festivities feature 22 groups, divided between the Moorish and Christian factions, each with its own traditions and costumes. In addition to the Landing, the schedule includes parades, diplomatic missions, religious ceremonies, and cultural activities that enrich the celebration.
