Clavileño Chocolates

The first chapters of Chocolates Clavileño’s history were written more than 130 years ago. It was Jaume Martí, the great-grandfather of the current managers, who decided to devote his life to crafting this prized “liquid gold.” From that moment on, generation after generation has followed this “calling,” perfecting methods and techniques while always maintaining the tradition of artisanal production inherited from their ancestors.
Proud of its history, Chocolates Clavileño has created a small museum in the premises adjacent to the current factory, where visitors can learn how chocolate is made and how the process has evolved. It tells the story of this sweet treat through antique objects and tools, from the stone used to grind cacao to mortars, cacao roasters, scales, and the old wooden boxes in which the chocolate was packaged in cloth bags—boxes that were transported by cart to the villages of La Mancha for door-to-door sales. And of course, in this museum, we’ll also discover the history of this family of chocolatiers and the story behind the creation of the Clavileño brand in 1960, which pays homage to Don Quixote’s flying horse.
