Ruta Casco Urbano

This route invites you to discover the evolution of Villajoyosa since the late 17th century, when the decline in pirate attacks allowed the town to expand beyond its Renaissance walls.

The tour begins at Plaza de la Generalitat and passes through some of the areas that shaped the city’s urban development. Plaza del Olmo became the new center of daily life, and starting in 1862, Colón Street played a key role as part of the highway connecting Valencia and Alicante, fostering trade and economic growth.

Along the route, visitors can discover buildings and sites of great historical interest, such as the Market, the Theater-Auditorium, the historic Chalet de Centella, the ancient Roman baths, the museums dedicated to the chocolate-making tradition, and the La Barbera dels Aragonés House Museum, a magnificent stately home that offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of the local bourgeoisie.
