La Colada de la Costa

The Colada de la Costa is a circular coastal route of approximately 8 kilometers, taking about 2 hours to complete, with a low to medium difficulty level. It runs along part of the Villajoyosa coastline between Playa del Torres and Torre del Aguiló in La Cala. This trail, designated as a Blue Trail, follows the route of an old cattle track along the Mediterranean coast and allows hikers to discover cliffs, coves, historic towers, and some of the best-preserved natural landscapes in the municipality.

The Colada de la Costa, also known as the Sender de la Costa, is one of Villajoyosa's most unique scenic routes. This circular coastal trail, designated a Blue Trail, is approximately 8 kilometers long, takes about 2 hours to complete, and is of easy to moderate difficulty, making it an excellent option for enjoying the Mediterranean landscape with the family.

The route follows part of the old cattle trail that ran along the coast of Villajoyosa and which for centuries was used by transhumant flocks from the inland mountains in search of pastures and milder temperatures during the winter.

The trail runs parallel to the Mediterranean Sea, winding between cliffs, small coves, and sparsely developed coastal areas, offering spectacular panoramic views of the Villajoyosa, Benidorm, and Alicante coastline. Along the way, you can observe geological formations, vegetation adapted to the saline environment, and marine and coastal fauna, with seabirds and even dolphins frequently sighted at certain times of the year.

The route also allows you to discover important heritage and historical elements, such as the Sant Josep Tower, considered the best preserved Roman funerary tower in Spain, old 19th century Carabineros barracks or the Aguiló Tower, a historic 16th century defensive watchtower located in one of the most spectacular panoramic points of the region.

During the tour you can also access coves of great natural value, such as Racó del Conill, known for its crystal clear waters and attractive seabed for snorkeling.

Thanks to its combination of nature, historical heritage and Mediterranean landscape, the Colada de la Costa is one of the most recommended routes to discover the Villajoyosa coastline in a peaceful and sustainable way.

Further information:

It is recommended to wear comfortable shoes and bring water and sun protection, especially during the warmer months. Although the route is of low to medium difficulty, some sections run alongside cliffs and rocky areas, so extra caution is advised. It is also recommended to respect the natural environment and check sea conditions and weather forecasts before starting the hike.
