When December arrives, La Vila Joiosa is decked out for Christmas. Lights and Christmas carols adorn the streets, creating a special atmosphere, and the colors of Christmas fill every corner of the town. These are days for reunions, days for sharing and enjoying time with friends and family. That’s why La Vila Joiosa offers us a variety of ways to make the most of Christmas in December.

Craft fairs with activities for children, concerts, theater, and performances at the Teatre Auditori, a community hot chocolate gathering in the Old Town, entertainment in the shopping streets so children can finish writing their letters to Santa Claus and/or the Three Kings, a Christmas parade, charity events… A wide variety of “sweet Christmas treats” to savor in our Christmas calendar.

But, as we were saying, Christmas in La Vila Joiosa has a special charm, and that’s not just a cliché. For example, at noon on Christmas Eve, it’s a “tradition” to go out for tapas with friends at the bars and outdoor patios in the city center, creating a truly unique and special atmosphere. The music in the streets and the magic of Christmas turn that midday into the afternoon of Christmas Eve into an event that no one wants to miss.

The unique traditions of Christmas in La Vila Joiosa continue on New Year’s Eve. The traditional 12 grapes in La Vila Joiosa take place against a unique and distinctive backdrop: the town’s Historic Center, designated a Site of Cultural Interest and one of the best-preserved in the Valencian Community. The Church Square, at the foot of the clock tower of the Levantine Gothic Fortress Church, bathed in color by the traditional facades of the surrounding houses, is the perfect setting to bid farewell to the old year and the best place to welcome the new one. In addition to the “setting,” the City Council and the Vila Vella Association are preparing and taking care of every detail: party favors, grapes, music and dancing, bars with affordable prices… and above all, a great atmosphere and a desire to have fun.

In addition, in the days leading up to January 6, La Vila Joiosa hosts the “Three Kings Camp.” For a few days, La Vila Joiosa becomes the epicenter of Christmas in the Marina Baixa. The Three Kings’ entourage sets up camp here to organize the gifts, the coal, and the parades… This camp, created on the initiative of two festival organizations, is full of activities and entertainment for young and old alike, and it is from there that the Three Kings Parade sets off on the afternoon of January 5, winding its way through the city’s streets and leaving a trail of excitement, fantasy, and good wishes in its wake.

And to wrap up the day, you can’t miss out on a nice, warm cup of Vilero hot chocolate to go with the roscón while you wait for your gifts. Without a doubt, it’s the icing on the cake of a truly unique Christmas.
