Our Lady of Tiscar

The Pilgrimage in Honor of the Virgin of Tiscar is held on the second weekend of June and fills La Vila Joiosa with the colors, flavors, and art of Andalusia. The festival begins with the pilgrimage and offering procession, which fills the streets with carts, horses, traditional costumes, carnations, and music to honor the Virgin of Tiscar, who for a few days will preside over “the fair booth” set up for the occasion on the grounds of the “xarquet.”

This pilgrimage began 38 years ago thanks to a group of men and women from La Vila, originally from the town of Quesada (Jaén), who wanted to honor their patron saint and share the traditions, culture, and folklore of their hometown with their neighbors. Over the years, their children—now residents of La Vila—took up the torch and continue the tradition, providing days of enjoyment for children and adults alike.

From Thursday through Sunday, the fairgrounds are filled with attractions that delight children and young people alike. During the day, there are activities and games for kids, a migas contest and tasting, olive oil tastings, a beer festival, tapas, music, dancing… And at night, there are major concerts featuring renowned artists and fireworks. Of course, the traditional hot chocolate party is a must to give the festival that authentic “Vilero” flavor.

On Sunday, the Rociera Mass brings this celebration to a close—a celebration that has found a special place in the hearts of the people of Vilà and the residents of the region, and which is now an essential event on the city’s festival calendar.
